When Zuko came to Fandom, he never thought he'd stay here for a full two years. He'd also never thought that he would actually make friends. Who knew that saying goodbye to them was actually hard? In a way, saying goodbye to Peter had been easy. They both had thrones to return to. This was different however and which was why he saved it for last.

They'd both come a long way since they first met. He learned to finally master lightning bending. She learned she was a mutant and then decided she wanted to be normal. He couldn't ever pretend to understand her decision, but he knew what it was like to feel isolated. He also knew that she was the only one to realise just what he was going back to.

In the end, neither of them had any words. They meditated together for the last time and when the time had come, Zuko rose to his feet. Marie followed close behind and he turned when he reached the door. He had a destiny to fulfil. Not the one his father had laid out for him, but the one Zuko decided for himself.

Reaching up, Zuko rested a hand on her cheek. It was the first time he ever touched her and it surprised him when she closed her eyes against the tears. It surprised him when he leaned down, brushing his lips over hers or when she kissed him back. It was sweet and gentle and nothing in Zuko's life was like that. Nothing probably would be again as he pulled away and slipped out of the door.
