Our cat is no longer symmetrical
Oct. 30th, 2006 01:26 pmYesterday I noticed that Misty had a small wound at her mouth. We tried to take a look at it, but of course the minute you tried, she got all fidgety and wouldn't let us. (Not that she's in pain because she didn't respond to touching it, she just went all 'zomg people trying to examine me'.) So last evening, she was lying in her usual 'look at me, I'm so lazy' position on her back, her head back with her throat up and usually when she's lying in that position, you can see her vampire like fangs. Only, I only was seeing one. Another round of examinations and her being insulted I was trying to look at her teeth and it led to nothing.
So this morning, I get my mom as back up as I really couldn't see her left fang and it was right underneath that small wound and usually they're so easy to spot. A lot of struggling later and yeah, one of her fangs is gone. She must have gotten hit by something and it broke off. She's not in any pain and she can eat just fine, so we most likely won't take her to the vet. It's just kind of sad.

Date: 2006-10-30 12:46 pm (UTC)When he died, we thought our little 'kitten' (she was only 5 years younger than the he-cat, but never grew out of looking like a one-year-old kitten) would wither away, since she always seemed totally dependent on him.
We couldn't have been more wrong: our sweet, shy, undersized kitty is now the tiger of the neighbourhood ;-)
Other cats quake at the sight of her, and we never have strange cats near our house ;-)
She's 13 or 14 now, but still has all her fangs. Apparently her style of fighting doesn't involve the fangs as much ;-)
We had to take the big he-cat to the vet for his regular check-up shortly after he lost his first fang anyway, and the vet pretty much said to just leave it as it was, since it wasn't broken at or in the root of the tooth.
Ahh, kitties, you can't help but love them :-)

Date: 2006-10-30 06:18 pm (UTC)I had a big Tom cat when I was in high school who broke a fang too. He looked so silly. Never had any problems from it though. Of course, this was the same cat who wouldn't let us near him when he broke his leg and ended up bow-legged because of it. He was a tough cat with everyone but me. *misses*
