Application
Feb. 16th, 2006 12:34 pmThe people working in town hall? Total sadists. I applied for a job there last week and this morning I got their response in the mail. The structure of the letter goes something like that:
You applied for a job and we found that you were perfect for it.
Congratulations!
College has decided to not hire you.
WTF? Do not praise me and put a fucking congratulations in the letter if you're going to say no in the next line. It makes me go all OMG!!!! and then WTF???

Date: 2006-02-16 12:55 pm (UTC)I'd suggest calling them. Just say, "Your response letter to me says two opposite things. What's the correct answer?" even if they say something condescending like, "OMG didn't you read the last paragraph?" It's always slightly better to know...

Date: 2006-02-18 09:57 am (UTC)So they're like that across the border too, eh?
Not quite as dramatic as applying for a job, but I got a parking ticket once, when I was parked in a spot for which I =paid= but the machine didn't give me a ticket. I put a note under my windscreen saying that I paid, but didn't get a ticket from the machine, and lo and behold what was waiting for me stuck underneath my windscreen wiper when I came back.
I sent a letter, didn't pay the fine, and 3/4 of a year later I got a letter that said something along the lines of:
"The fine has been cancelled. Please pay within 28 days or we will charge interest"
I ignored it, didn't do anything about it, and never heard from them again.
Oh and then there's the part where yesterday, I got a letter from the Water Board in Utrecht, who have been trying to get me to pay taxes on a house that isn't mine for years. We (me and the person actually owning the house) have sent at least half a dozen letters explaining that no, I'm not the owner, but E is, and no, even though I lived there and moved out, I'm not the one having to pay the taxes.
Yesterdays letter said that the taxes over 2003 and 2004 (!!!!) won't have to be paid by me since I don't live at the address nor own the property.
I am.. speechless..
