Apparently Best Buy is getting some exclusive for the BSG DVDs. I have an eerie suspicion that they simply took the UK DVDs and converted them to Region 1. My advice if this is the case is to not buy it. They're bound to screw everyone with region 1 over by giving region 2 more extras.

Yes, I'm still cranky about that. Can't they just give everyone the same extras instead of pulling this shit? They already did it for the mini by giving us 15 minutes of the low down and besides that absolutely nothing. Why? Because we got it earlier we're bad fans who don't deserve the pretty? (And with we I'm kinda turning myself into a Brit.)

I'm sorry, it just annoys me. Most of the time we pay more for our DVDs and Universal has done nothing to give extras to their fans while Ron Moore is all smug about how the US will get extras. Nice, thanks. I feel really valued as a fan. But then, I'm not a statistic for them so why should they care?

*coughs* Shutting up now.

They tend to focus on the US for some reason, I really don't get why and I think it's stupid.

But the real reason for this comment... I'm sure you've seen them already but I figured I'd point them out just in case. Saw these and thought of you (http://www.livejournal.com/community/hires_hotties/96496.html). :)

Er, most of those are shots from the show. And Maxim haven't approached Katee because I think Starbuck scares them. 'Cause, y'know, she's stronger and better than the men. And no one likes a butch woman. *eyeroll*

It's Maxim. Apparently, men are threatened by strong women. Or some crap like that.

(Katee may have simply turned them down)

I know! I usually don't care about extras -- most of the time, I don't watch them. Except for BSG, where I bought the US version of the mini because I wanted to see the lowdown. Still, it's annoying to think that the European market is treated differently. We still bring revenue with the DVD sales and there's no reason for that. If it makes you feel better, some of the extras will probably be the commentaries we already had through Ron Moore's podcast. At least that's what I tell myself.

I think it’s a tradeoff between getting the DVDs out much more quickly (as Region 2 nearly always gets them first – sometimes actually YEARS in advance of Region 1, as with “Angel” and “Farscape”) versus putting lots of extra stuff on them. And there are some things where the Region 2 DVDs are way, way better and cheaper (like the UK “Queer as Folk” DVDs I recently bought from England). I agree though that it annoys me that there are different things available in different places – sheesh, it’s like, we all spend the money, you know? (I’m so glad I bought an easy-to-turn-into-multiregion DVD player!!) This is why I am holding out for whatever the US edition of BSG is.

Also, like you, I think the LOTR Extended DVDs have totally spoiled me for what I expect on DVD extras – they are so rich and detailed and the only other DVD release that’s come close to that is the “Master & Commander” extended edition I bought. Everyone else’s extras tend to be quite crappy. Heh!

Personally, I'd rather wait longer and get more. I think I'm probably not the only one who thinks that. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I was able to get them fast because I had only seen them on my computer, but still...

Oh, yeah, I totally would feel that way too...

Apparently, we don't have the enormous customs that you all face because I will often order things from amazon.uk - and they're cheap and very fast. (Much cheaper than books, becuase the postage is much less for a DVD...) Sigh! I'm sorry :(

Dude, down with customs!

I thought that was the point of the EU ;) (Seriously, how come y'all gotta pay duty on stuff from the UK? Aren't you all one big happy Union? Is it because those stubborn Brits won't join Euroland? ::is curious::)

I don't see why they don't give everyone the same extras. It's beyond annoying.

Or they're trying to persuade fans to buy multiple DVD players for different regions and then to buy multiple versions of the DVDs for the different extras. Which also sucks.

I agree completly with you about the unfairness of different regions getting different extras. I'm in the US, but I have found myself buying region 2 stuff and watching on my laptop......but it's annoying having to.

Region 2 Farscape Peacekeeper Wars has extra footage from the mini that region 1 doesn't (so I've heard.)

Invisible Man (the 1990s tv show) is only available in region 2 - and only season one at that. Scuttlebutt is that TPTB won't put out season 2 until they "sell enough" of season one, but they are not counting any sets that ship overseas. Why? Who knows.

And this whole BSG exclusive at Best Buy dren is so utterly stupid that I am refusing to buy. I can wait, thank you very much. I have my British downloads.

Grargh. Best Buy pulls this crap all the time . . . the last couple of Xena box sets had special extras if you bought the Best Buy edition, which was different from the one you could get anywhere else. :P This was, evidently, enough justification to ratchet the price up about $20.

. . . and the packaging for season 6 was lousy as all hell.

I generally object on principle to Best Buy getting exclusive perks on anything. Just because they're evil.

Though I might end up getting those DVDs depending on what the extras look like, because I'm weak and impatient. Ugh.

I was curious as to whether your icons are up for grabs. I saw that a few didn't have the maker credited which either meant you made them or have no idea who did. They for sharing?
