I didn't expect anything from the movie and it turned out quite alright.
The one thing that bugs me is Padmé death. It fraks up my knowledge of canon. Didn't Luke once ask Leia about their mother and she replied that she was always sad? I thought Padmé remarried and died when Leia was still very young. Or am I dreaming this? I see why she has to die in this plot, but the blanks I filled in in the origina lseries just do not seem to match with what they show here. In my head, Vader didn't know about Padmé's pregnancy. She hid it from him. Of course if he did know, then yeah, he probably has to believe she and the babies are dead for it to work. Still... am I dreaming this? Or is Lucas going to make a new edition of the trilogy yet again to cut the scenes at are no longer canon now?
But in the end, the movie is HEAPS better than the first two. Which really isn't all that hard considering how bad they are. Anakin was a little less annoying (although I just can not warm up to the actor). Padmé had nothing but to be pregnant. I love the clones, really I do. Can I have my own clone army, please? Yoda kicked ass. OMG, the scene where they destroy all the Jedi was just... I'm not sure what the word is, but it nearly had me crying. Especially when Anakin walks into that room with the younglins and that little boy comes out of hiding and asks for help and then you see Anakin switch on his lightsaber. Gods. Just... *sighs* Poor Yoda.
Dude, Obi-Wan should have just kicked Anakin in that lava stream. While I adore Darth Vader in the original trilogy, I just can not like Anakin. Bah.
Getting in the movie was an adventure too. I was going to meet with my sister there at 16:30. I got there half an hour early and bought my ticket (she had told me not to buy for them too so I didn't). I was keeping an eye on the seats. They were playing the movie twice at 17:00 and once at 17:30. Only one of those (at 17:00) was a digital version (the one I bought a ticket for). It seemed most of the sessions had attracted very few people. Still 450 seats free in both versions at 17:00 so I don't worry about them not getting any seats. Until it's suddenly 16:30, my sisters hasn't shown up yet and in five minutes time both sessions at 17:00 are full up. Major freak out, of course my sister her mobile is turned off. Then it seems the screening I was going to watch is suddenly no longer in the room it says on my ticket. When my sister shows up, I'm like "dude, there are no more tickets and only a few left for 17:30!" Apparently the digital projector broke and they needed to bring the two sessions together. It was no problem though, I could go to the 17:00 one or the 17:30 one, whichever I preferred and my sister bought tickets for 17:30. Strangely enough, while the girl claimed there were no digital screenings anymore, we still ended up seeing a digital one. And dude, this movie was anything but full. I think they just didn't have a big enough audience and so they decided to show it in just one room instead of two and made up some lame excuse. Apparently all screenings for the rest of the evening had already been sold out though.
Ugh my puter is slow.

Date: 2005-05-20 09:18 pm (UTC)Heh, the actor is just... flat. I have no sympathy for him. At least he is not as annoying as in the second movie.
Hee! Hope you enjoy it. It's a lot more in the line of the older movies.

Date: 2005-05-20 09:46 pm (UTC)It serves Palpatine's purposes for Vader to believe he killed Padmé outright, and assume that the baby (and he doesn't know that should be "babies," either) died with her. It wouldn't surprise me if Palpatine knew about them for years. When he couldn't keep it from Vader any longer after Luke started making a name for himself in the rebellion, he used it to his advantage, to bind Vader that much more tightly.

Date: 2005-05-20 09:57 pm (UTC)I have a couple different theories for reconciling Padmé's death. None of them can really satisfy me, but I'll be posting them later anyway, FWIW.

Date: 2005-05-20 09:32 pm (UTC)And yes, I always thought that she was supposed to have hidden her pregnancy from Anakin.
I did wonder how Palpatine managed to order the clones to kill all the Jedi though, because they've been under Jedi leadership for the past three years since "Attack of the Clones". It's just strange that they suddenly obeyed him.
And yes, that room with Anakin and the younglings was disturbing.
Yes, I agree Obi-Wan should have killed Anakin. He was stupid not to - though that seems to have been his one bad decision in the movie.
I did like how they brought back Chewbacca, and Captain Antilles, and Governer Tarkin - though the fact that they were already constructing the Death Star seemed weird. It's going to take 20 years to finish?
Overall, a good movie, though still nothing on ESB which has to be my favourite.

Date: 2005-05-20 09:37 pm (UTC)The clone thing makes sense though. They are probably made to be loyal to the republic. It makes sense, IMHO, that they would listen to any order given to them. But it was sad, yeah. *sighs*
*nods* I love the little nods towards the original trilogy. Heh and that Yoda is such good friends with the Wookies.

Date: 2005-05-20 09:58 pm (UTC)Going to have to go back and watch that part of RotJ and see what happens.
They are probably made to be loyal to the republic.
Else it was Palpatine who orchestrated them created in the first place, and it's some sort of conditional thing that they were indoctrinated with. Anything is possible.
Yoda is such good friends with the Wookies.
Given how sceptical Han is of the Jedi, obviously it's not something Chewie ever spoke to him about. ;)

Date: 2005-05-20 10:02 pm (UTC)That could very well be true. Or he just knew about them being made and took advantage of it?

*snickers* Nope!

Date: 2005-05-21 12:30 am (UTC)I have thoughts. Trust me, I do. They are just very foggy and cranberry flavoured at the moment. I'm setting myself the goal of sunday to actually post my reaction to Sith in my LJ, but in the meantime;
OMG, the scene where they destroy all the Jedi was just... I'm not sure what the word is, but it nearly had me crying.
Heartbreaking? Thats how I felt. Esecally the yound paduan who jumps out when Senator Organa arrives at the temple. You know he's a redshirt and ultimately his attempt to defend the temple is in vain but there's still this flicker of hope that you have ::sigh::
Also the last shot!! Such obvious foreshadowing but done so very, very well!

and yes for a moment I was thinking 'Ok who could this be from the original 3 movies'... then its clear that we're just getting set up for more tragedy.

Date: 2005-05-21 09:38 am (UTC)Kinda mixed feeling about the newer trilogy in general, though this last one hit me hardest. I was already to mock it thoroughly and then they showed the killing of the younglings - I was nearly sick. I'm not sure what it is, but baby-killing makes me react in such a violent way. *shudders*. And the Jedi-slaughter, too - thoroughly tragic.
I felt a bit sorry for Natalie Portman, though, she had a rubbish storyline!
As for continuity, yeah, I had all the same issues - I'm such and original!SW junkie :) I was sure Padme hung around with the kiddies for a while, after what Leia said in RotJ. And go the wookies! Woo!
But yeah, the youngling-killing... I wish I could stop picturing it.

Date: 2005-05-21 10:21 am (UTC)The whole Jedi-slaughter was just haunting. Esp after playing KotOR which for some reason made this more vivid.
