I wonder if this is the same documentary that Heath saw at a Democratic Party homegroup event? I didn't see it, but he says it was exceedingly interesting. He's since tried watching Fox News and just can't stand the general attitude on there.
However, it is worth remembering that all media is biased in some regard or another. Fox News just happens to have a more publicised bias than other outlets

Good way of putting it. Fox also has great shows like Hannity and Colmes. Colmes is a great guy for someone who is always wrong ;)
Heh, there is biased and then there is biased. I'm amazed they didn't fire this guy to begin with as it seems to me that he is just a bad journalist. I guess they just have different ideas of informative media.
Do they actually allow a nutjob like that to say things in public? Yes, we actually have this little document called the Bill of Rights...and freedom of speech is one of the rights guaranteed by it. We allow a lot of nutjobs to say a lot of things.
Oh, and that allows people to hire incompetent journalists who actually tell their guests to shut up. *nods*
I'm not talking about his right to express his opinion. That's beside the point, it's the fact that he is hosting an entire show, talking down to his guests, spewing rightist crap and no one actually thinks "god, he is a bad journalist, we have to fire this guy because he's completely incompetent."
Uhm...no. Fox thrives on controversy. They live for it. Or, have you not been watching Fox? And besides, he might be rude, snarky and live to incite, but he is not incompetent. He's always well prepared. I don't watch Fox frequently...I've seen Bill O'Reilly, but I don't watch him frequently. I'll tell you who on Fox bothers me far more, though, and that's Shepard Smith. He's actually a news anchor - reporting the news (not hosting his own new program). I find his attitude and comments far more offensive in that position. That and the fact that they've hired Geraldo Rivera to do anything gives me serious reservation when I watch Fox. But then, I have just as serious reservations about CNN. As for journalism? At least in this country, the profession has lost serious ground on the respectability scale.
And besides, he might be rude, snarky and live to incite, but he is not incompetent. He's always well prepared.
Someone constantly interrupting his guests, failing to understand what they are saying, telling them to shut up, then threating them to kick their ass and finally completely distorting what they said is incompetent to me. Here it isn't even allowed for people in the media to make any political preference clear.
At least in this country, the profession has lost serious ground on the respectability scale.
That was the entire point of this point. Very sad if journalism works that way as it has a lot of influence.
then threating them to kick their ass Bill did this? I'd love to see that tape.
Very sad if journalism works that way as it has a lot of influence. Very sad indeed. And what's even more sad...the majority of the media sheep in this country don't recognize it.
Can't remember his name, damn. He was the son of someone who died in 9/11. The kid said his father would never had supported Bush in his decisions and O'Reilly started telling him that was crap and he should shut up.
Yeah, back in the good old days, that would have happened here too. Sadly, people have pushed the envelope on everything...to the point where the envelope has just about lost it's shape.
He gets away with it by stating he's progressive when he seems to be right-wing in disguise to me. I listen to him occasinally because he's on during my work shift. He's more tolerable than some of the other nutjobs anyway who make me want to explode, but I can usually only bring myself to listen to about half the show.
Really, though? O'Reilly is all about himself. No matter the topic or validity, he always brings everything back to himself and how important he thinks he is. I think he wants to be a politician but knows no one will vote for him.
Dude, he told his guest to "shut up," told him downright he was a disgrace and his dead father would hate him for saying such things and then went on about how bad a citizen the guy was. The next show, he completely twisted the guy's words around and accused him of stuff he didn't say. That is incompetence and just bad journalism. I'm amazed he isn't fired for it.
Oh, he's told people to shut up more than once. But twisting words around is the way of the 'entertainment' press in general. If you fire him for that, you have to fire everyone. It's also the responsibility of the people to research their facts and not just be taken in by talk-show hosts who aren't actually news anchors, but entertainers.
He gets by because he claims he isn't partisan. He supposedly treats both the left and the right equally. I don't think he does but many people do think he does. He has a pretty big audience, mostly of right wing moderates and left wing conservatives.
Frankly, most people know what they're getting into when they agree to appear on his show.
