Harry Potter: the Prisoner of Azkaben
Jun. 17th, 2004 11:19 pm1. Wow, it was in the IMAX. I never saw a movie there before but it was way cool. And comfortable seats! Surprisingly enough the crowd was quiet.
2. That's not Lupin. I was trying to remain open because I really believe the actor might be able to pull it off but it just wasn't him.
3. I had too high hopes.
4. There are so many things missing in the movie. A lot doesn't get explained and if you haven't read the book I think it would be really confusing.
5. Alan Rickman remains a genius. He *is* Snape.
6. This new Dumbledore lacks authority. He's a very grey figure and just isn't able to convince me.
7. Emma Thompson was great.
8. The dementors were very scary. It wasn't quite how I imagined them but dude, they were really creepy.
9. The werewolf was a bit disappointing. As was the partonus spell.
10. The actors are too old. I don't know how they're going to manage the next movie as they've already outgrown their parts.
11. I'm a Ron/Hermione shipper but there definitely is something about Harry/Hermione in this movie. I guess the actors just have a nice chemistry.
12. Petter Pettigrew was great. I imagined him more bald for some reason but this worked.
13. The Marauders Map was really cool.
Conclusion: My expectations were too high. I should have known it and been a lot more skeptical as I would have been alright then. There were just a lot of things missing or they were just slightly off.

Date: 2004-06-17 10:03 pm (UTC)I don't know, they never explain why Lupin can read the Marauders Map which leaves out a lot of history. I also find that Peter Pettigrew's betrayel is insufficiently explained and you don't really get a firm grasp on the why and how he framed Sirius. Which to me seem to be very important storylines.

Date: 2004-06-17 11:03 pm (UTC)I don't know, if I didn't know about the Marauders map I might have wondered how come Lupin was able to use it.
LOL, don't worry I'm always like this. I just have to compare movie and book while I know it will annoy me. I did enjoy the movie =o)

Date: 2004-06-18 01:10 am (UTC)I know! At one point Harry turned around and I thought "Oooooooo, he's gonna ask!" and nothing!
Lupin all but spelled it out to Harry... I expected him to start dancing and singing "I'm Mooney."
*giggles at that image*
Well I'm glad that this new image from Lupin has turned away my muse. *happily continues writing her Lupin fic*

Date: 2004-06-17 10:11 pm (UTC)Yeah, it's sad. Maybe they should just skip one or two movies and film a later movie with them and at the same time film the ones in between with another cast. But I'm not sure the fans will buy that. =oS

Date: 2004-06-18 01:24 am (UTC)I like the new Dumbledore because I felt like the previous oine was too old, too stiff. Ultimately, I always felt like Dumbledore should be old, but he should be spry, if that makes any sense. But I haven't thought about it in relation to the sense of authority he conveys. Huh.

I'm a reluctant Ron/Hermione shipper in the sense that I'm almost positive they'll end up together in the end and that'll be good and fine. However, this movie? Harry/Hermione is nearly canon. Great chemistry. Squee!

Date: 2004-06-18 01:28 am (UTC)I can't see this Dumbledore as the wise man from the books. The other Dumbledore was great, he was exactly what I had in mind. He was funny, authoritive and mysterious. This one is kinda grey, flat, doesn't strike me as wise or demanding respect. Well, that was how I felt it anyway.

I just love them in the books =o)

Definitely agree for the movie. But maybe that has to do with Ron being more of a stereotype in this movie too.

Date: 2004-08-02 01:59 am (UTC)Oy. That's all I have to say on that...except that my sister was VERY amused when I said that watching the movie was ruining my entire impression of Lupin (she being the sister who likes Sirius and therefore makes fun of Lupin ;)). *g*

Heh. Totally agree with you on that, too. :D

I loved when she slapped his hand from the Time-Turner. *g*
