Everyone on my list knows that I'm a shipper. I have OTP's and one in particular: Sam and Jack. Most of my pairings outside SG are het as well but there are some exceptions of femslash OTP. Still, what binds all those pairings together is that they're canon (yes, even Aragorn/Eowyn is canon to an extent).

Male slash? Well, here's the tricky part; I don't mind slash but it has to be canon. So no, I don't get Jack/Daniel if it's one step beyond friendship because Jack. Is. Not. Gay. I have read books, seen movies and even series (although these are rarer) with m/m pairings and I enjoy it but it doesn't make me squee. Why? Projection. It's as simple as that. I can not project unto m/m and that takes away any thrill for me. What is the point of a slash pairing when I know that both guys would never be interested in me? Now no, that doesn't mean that I imagine I'm Sam but yes, it reflects on my own hopes and believes. A guy wanting to hump another guy; dude, I don't get anything out of that.

Threesomes. Ah, here the other shoe drops. I like threesomes on a sexual level only (even so far that I might not always need a woman in the pairing to enjoy it but if I get to chose m/f/m is my preference). But, here's the tricky part; I don't get threesomes on an emotional level. And why do I read fanfic? Yups, you've guessed it; I read fanfic for the pshychological and emotional insight. I can get some threesome (or more) fics on one condition; my OTP needs to stand out. I need to have some hold on where I can say that they are special and it goes beyond the physical aspect of it all. I need to believe that while Daniel or Jonas or whoever touches Sam as well, her mind is more with Jack. Those fics are rare. Most multiple partner fics have Sam tied to Daniel and/or Daniel tied to Jack. And I'm sorry but I don't see either pairings. I just simply don't and never will. So yeah, on a sexual level sure, it can be hot. But to let me appreciate it as a fic, I need Sam/Jack in it. And don't give me that "but they love each other equally" crap because they don't. Maybe the problem is that most threesomes are written by slasher and just the idea of Daniel and Jack humouring Sam appals me. Another thing that makes me unreceptive towards it is my view of Jack. I see him as the possessive type. I find it hard to imagine Jack sharing Sam in any way. I see him more likely to hit Daniel a nice shiner for even trying to touch her than I see him moving aside and giving Daniel a go at Sam (and I have read that and was utterly disgusted by Jack's behaviour).

So there you have it. That's pretty much how I see my pairings and how and why I read certain fics. Anyone want to write my thesis?
