So, I didn't realise they'd make a movie about this until I found it on a comm recently. I love the story of Tristan and Isolde, it's one that belongs to my childhood as my sister used to tell it to me when I was little. I'm usually not a fan of the whole secret affairs tails, but this one always stood out to me. Unlike Lancelot and Guinevere, Tristan and Isolde remained loyal to their king. That's something that I always held dear about them because even when they finally slept (in the sleeping sense) together, Tristan still kept his sword between them.

Sadly enough, this movie completely throws that away. The beginning is actually semi-accurate with the version(s) that I know, but the whole sleeping together (in a non sleeping sense) thing kinda bummed me. I could have forgiven them for not including the love potion (to make the story more belieable), but that change hurt a lot of the movie for me. The legend is all about the wanting and them never getting it because they love King Mark too much to hurt him like that, even if they know that they are already betraying him just by the way they feel.

And of course, the entire ending was changed too. No Tristan leaving and getting married with another Isolde. No him near dying requesting Isolde's presence and his wife lying about the colour of the sails on the boat that brought Isolde to him. No seperate graves with rose bushes growing over the chapel to tangle together.

The movie's not bad, it's just that it wasn't the story that I loved so much. (And yes, I'm aware that there are a lot of different versions of it.)
