Flesh & Blood
Jul. 15th, 2006 01:30 pmEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! We are so screwed. This reminds me of DS9 when the Dominion first invaded and they were getting their asses kicked. I'm amazed that SG is going down this road. They used to be the good news show, ever since S9 things have just been going badly.
More specific thoughts; Cameron rocked. Okay, so you saw that one coming but duuuuude. I loved him flying the ship to pick up Sam and after doing some amazing flying, he still puts it down to luck. He also seemed pretty upset about Kvasir screwing up the sandwich. Mitchell likes his food. (I know, I know. It's not that he was upset about, but I found it amusing so nerh.)
Daniel getting off the ship using the rings confused me a bit. SG canon seemed to be that they either needed other rings to lock on to or they need to be right above the target. Do the Ori have rings too? I kinda missed some of Daniel's explanation there.
Yay Vala! Admittedly there's no way any giving birth scene is going to top PKW. I did love her in this. I loved her need to try and redeem the child because I think she honestly does care, even if she ended up lying to her. But then that confuses me too as Adria supposedly knows all and should have been able to pick up on that.
Yay for Bratac, btw. I love him and will continue to do so. Him wanting to make a last stand makes sense, Cameron objecting to it was just awesome. At the end of the season finale, you see Cameron just trying to do anything to turn things around in the battle, including scrambling the X-302s while he knows it won't do anything but they don't have a choice. Now him trying to talk sense into Bratac is just way cool.
On another note, how many times has Teal'c been tortured now? They just keep doing that to him over and over and over again. *pats Teal'c and his haircut*
In conclusion. Cameron was still hot. I still don't see Daniel/Vala. I did see some Sam/Cam as he found her in the sickbay and the handshake was just cute and made me squee. I liked the ep and I'm finding that after rewatching S9, I don't mind the Ori all that much.
So yeah, Cameron's hot. Yay!
Next up; bathroom, lunch and then Avatar!

Date: 2006-07-15 12:39 pm (UTC)Yeah, this was really sort of handwaved away. I guess they already had a lock since their plan was to send a nuke to the Ori ship, but I still thought it was cheezy that Daniel managed to save only himself by flinging himself on the rings at the very last second.
Admittedly there's no way any giving birth scene is going to top PKW.
I haven't seen PKW yet, but it was the first thought I had when she was giving birth. I wondered how this scene compared to the one in PKW.

I thought the ep was okay, it was a good wrap-up to the finale, but I was kind of itching for them to move the plot along. I'm not crazy either about the whole 'we're totally screwed' aspect of SG-1 now, but the previews for next week look good so I'm happy.

It seriously doesn't. It's nothing like this. The scene in PKW is just the best birthing scene I've ever seen on television. So I'm glad SG chose to just gloss over it.
And yeah, this was very much a wrap up episode more than a great season opener, but I didn't mind. I like the scene of doom really and it's something new for SG.

Date: 2006-07-15 03:35 pm (UTC)heh. I thought something like that, too. "Oh. Daniel didn't make it out, but don't worry, he'll just Ascend again. No big deal."
Anyway, yes, the Ori have rings. I at least vaguely recall that that was first shown when Daniel and Vala (or, rather, them in the bodies of those people in the Ori galaxy) were taken to meet the head Prior. I know that was definitely also the explanation for how Vala survived her sabotage of the first supergate, by ringing to the nearest set, that happened to be through the supergate and in the Ori galaxy.

Date: 2006-07-15 04:42 pm (UTC)I was thinking that, too. *g* And I think Adria's skills aren't really all-encompassing, or they're not fully developed yet. A truly omniscient and all-seeing nemesis is hard to write for, I think, because their powers would eliminate the need for other people to say anything. *waves hand*
My sister and I have concluded that Bratac will never die. Even as other longtime recurring characters disappear, we'll always have the Jaffa master.
