I feel like babbling so I'm going to do it here and you can ignore if you want.

Much of my internet life has existed out of Fandom life. More precisely, Stargate fandom. The shipper part of it anyway. I liked that part. Most of my flist comes from there and it was fun. People are moving on though, which is fine. That's how fandoms go.

I've moved on. As much good as there is in fandom, the wars are just stupid. Ship, slash, whatever. I had my sane corner and we mocked the insane corner and all was right. I guess when things started to quiet down, I slowly moved over to BSG. Early day Fandom was fun. I'm talking around the time that the series was being aired in the UK and most of the US had its fingers up their noses and was unaware. The wank that was around was the occasional lunatic shouting about Starbuck being female and isn't it a crime.

Then BSG got aired in the US and people started jumping on it. By the end of S1, slowly shippers were popping up. That was okay. I had a lot of fun discussions with shippers and non shippers. I loved this fandom. And then things got crazy. The first season was over, the shippers were gathering forces and spoilers came out. The shippers started frothing at the mouth and things went down the drain.

BSG fandom kinda made me hate the whole fandom thing and what comes with it. I've seen most of these dances before in SG fandom, maybe that's why I don't have the patience for half of it anymore. Maybe I simply don't care enough anymore because I wasn't too thrilled with S2 to begin with.

As it stands, I think I'm through with fandoms. Much much saner. I'll just sit here and babble about what I like and that's fine by me. Maybe I'll grumble about the lack of het Cameron fic and him being treated as filling for whatever pairing someone likes because it saddens me and I really want more Vala/Cameron fic.

I'm sure there was a point in this babbling, but I'm not entirely sure if I managed to write it down. Oh well. I got to use the word 'frothing'. *giggles*

I completely understand. Fandom is crazy. It gets to you after awhile.

You know it never bothered me until being a shipper became synonymous with being crazy and off your rocker.

I'm sure that something called Fandom High has *no* stress involved! :D

I may be a bit late to the party commenting to this thread, but: Word. Oh so much word. Wordy-word McWord. So very tired of The Fandom in all its many shapes and forms.

Mmmmm, chocolate. Closest I have right now is this Cocoa Puffs cereal bar I'm having for breakfast.

Well, one thing to remember is a lot of the BSG shippers came from SG-1 (from both sides of the divide), thus, they bring the crazy with them.

Every once in a while I'll catch a glimpse of something and realize that BSG is particularly nuts as people seem to *really* enjoy the clashes. I think it may even be more "junior high" than SG-1 was, which is a feat. And then I'm glad I'm not involved.

I miss fandom where the "ship" was not the main discussion and focus, where even if you did quietly like the idea of so-and-so with so-and-so, it wasn't the ONLY THING THERE.

I miss the Good Old Days...when there were no VCRs or internet or contact with other fans and we were all lonely and considered insane and thought we really were insane and the only ones like us and all communication involved a SASE...

I think I'll always miss that--where it was so rare and precious that you still spent time with The Few Other Fans Who Proved You Weren't Alone.

But I'd never give up this mass communication.

And yet...yeah...fandom = frustrating.

And that was true even in the "good old days."
