woodface: (BSG WTF)

I went to the con in Ghent today. It was fun. Lots of geeks around, some in way cool costumes. I just put on my Star Trek science officer shirt and got in cheaper. Mwah. I bought 2 patches for BSG. One with the logo on and one with the viper. Now I just need to find a jacket to actually stick them on.

Corin Nemec is hot. Dude, did not expect this but I'm in complete lust. No, I didn't pay and go up to eitehr him and Don Davis. It's that whole actor/character thing, I suppose. He was still way cute with his ballcap and damn, but the guy has a nice body. Q&A was kinda interesting if not too short.

Okay, I just had a look at my friendlist and WTF? Real people fanfic/ship? No, just no. No frakking way even. It's just... wrong. And it squicks me. As if Kara/Lee isn't bad enough on itself. JB is married, KS has a boyfriend. That's just... I love you guys, but no frakking way.

I was completely in lust with Corin Nemec at Gatecon in 2004. He's more beautiful in person, and he's a POET!!!!!!

But he seemed cranky and alienated at the autograph session.

And I just have to say -- cons in Ghent? There's just something surreal about that.

I wonder if he'd had some bad news at that Gatecon. It was really strange, especially when comparing to photos from previous cons where he was zany and fun.

I knew my comment about Ghent would sound weird. I've only been there as a tourist, so I think of it as very medieval and picturesque sort of place, and not the typical venue for a scifi con. (But I have very limited recall of how big a city it is.)

Brussels is different. And on the flip side, Bruges would have been even more surreal.

Real People fanfic?

That's kinda totally weird.

No, in fact, it IS totally weird.

I'm that way too, really. Because you really have to put a divide between the two, or else you end up being a really creepy fanperson.

I guess that came out not exactly how I meant it. I meant to say people who can't separate actors and characters are kinda wonky.

Being fans of actors themselves is totally okay.

But seriously... people write real people fanfic? I'd almost ask for a link, if it wasn't such a frightening concept.

I don't really get into the actors either. Like I said below, catching glimpses of them is fine, but I don't really need to know everything little detail about their life.

I understand too how 'knowing' actors can mess with the characters they portray. If some guy is a jerk in real life, I don't want to know about it because then it takes away from the character.

Yup RPF=real people fic, RPS=real people slash. I know some people really get into it, but it just squicks me. The arguement is that the actors are public personas and therefor it's ok to use them as characters because their public persona isn't the real them anyway.

omg ::massive love for 1776 icon::

Yeah, that's the sort of weirdness where I go "Uh, yeah, but would real people fic just be, you know... glorified tabloid writing?"

I'm glad you had fun at the con. I like getting glimpses of the actors in a more 'normal' setting.

I agree with you on the real person squick thing. That seems way too personal to be talking (and shipping) about JB and KS, or any of the other actors/actresses. It seems like that is crossing into Jaka territory.

OMG. You have made me remember that there are some scary List Members who think RDA fathered Tapping's baby!

GAH.

*hides in corner from the scary*

I'm sorry. It was cruel of me to bring up He Who Should Not Be Named, after so many blissfully quiet weeks without his stunning comments and fic requests.

*is sheepish*

I will defend myself by saying this is the first time I've ever thought of writting RPF. And to me, Katee and Jamie aren't really real people - they're sort of like characters. I would never pretend to think they'd ever act like I would write them, it's just fun.

And yes, I think it's weird and no real defense.

I just wonder how the actors might feel if they stumbled across it. I know I'd be really, really ...well beyond pissed off if someone mentioned my partner or kids in a fic. It just feel like a line that shouldn't be crossed to me. They are real people with real feelings after all.

Uh, hey this is utterly OT, and I'm sorry to spam you, but I found this wonderful icon that I wanted to snag and I have been told it is by you. So I wanted to ask if it's okay for me to snag.

Here's the icon:

Hey, it's what I would want as well. I'd never take someone's work without asking first. After all it's you who put the work in it and it's such a lovely icon. Good job.
