Letter to TPTB
Aug. 28th, 2005 01:22 pmDear Battlestar Galactica,
During the miniseries and S1 I fell utterly and truly in love with you. You have kick ass characters and a plot that was intrigueing and kept me clustered to my television. My love for every single character, even the shady ones like Baltar, was due to the depth of how they were drawn and how even if they frakked things up, you still wanted to see them go through it.
Then came Kobol Last Gleaming and you parts of it made me cringe. You planted seeds of doubt in my mind and I became scared that the cringe worthy elements would become many instead of few in S2. Sadly enough, I have to acknowledge that S2 has been filled with these moments. Your plot which was fascinating at first, is starting to scare me. Still, you managed to not yet topple completely over the edge and disappear into the shady world that is better known as crappy television and ridiculous plotlines. And now, after Home, it seems that you are given a new chance to get back on track. So please, my beloved show, take this chance.
Please give up the lazy story writing. As much as you seem to think that podcasts are funky, you forget that most of your viewers do not get a chance to listen to them (or can't be bothered to). You mentioning vital information in them does not make it canon and leaves a large part of your viewers in the dark.
Stop skipping so many things. I went out on a limb with The Farm and bend all kinds of directions to make this episode work for me. I was happy to do it, because it did work. However, the huge skip after the tomb in the last episode was kinda annoying and pretty much sucked. I'm sure you'll explain why in your podcast but I won't be arsed to listen as I refuse to hate the show because your producer is stuck up and thinks he's the best thing since bread came sliced. I beg you to please go back to the solid writing of S1 that did not ask me to continually ignore plotholes or cringe worthy scenes. Thank you very much.
And for the love of god, please stop ruining the characters. Don't turn Adama into a freaking pacifist because he's not. Stop making Roslin some religious leader and please let Billy make her see some sense. Kara is awesome as she is and does not need to be abused any further, please give her time to breath and let her be her cocky self again. Let Lee finally grow up and get over his teenage angst over his parents. Stop turning Cally into a psycho who will kill out of jealousy over her one unreturned crush. Please kill Boomer or at least give her a miscarriage, no one wants babies on Galactica and this plot is one of my biggest cringes in the show. Stop turning Helo into a lovesick puppy who has no brains and does everything his favourite toaster tells him to. Let him be more than just a sperm donor and let him get drunk together with Kara instead of standing there be angsty over his insane pregnant appliance. (I'm alright with most of the other characters.)
Could you please do this so I can go back to enjoying the show without having to fear for its sanity every week? Please?
Thank you very much,
Jara

Date: 2005-08-28 12:37 pm (UTC)Adama is just trying to get the fleet together again and i just love his little boomer!die! scene
Roslin will die soon now that she has "led them back to earth" she gets whiny
Boomer showed some character althoguht the whole pregnant thing doesnt interest me at all (and there prob be some fighting between her 2 men somewhere along the road)
They just need to shove Gais out of an airlock together with his oversexed headcase
So now the remaining eps they can fly to earth and kill some cylons on their way.......and make it look good

Date: 2005-08-28 12:51 pm (UTC)and it's giving me flashbacks to DS9 where the religion thing SUCKED.no subject
Date: 2005-08-28 12:59 pm (UTC)and that whole what do cylons remember of their copies and do they only get info on a "dead" copy's or are they just linked all the time

Date: 2005-08-28 01:04 pm (UTC)Ha, I think they are linked all the time. And dude, dead Sharon apparently still is aware of what's happening;

Date: 2005-08-28 01:11 pm (UTC)but if they are linked all the time the cylons know where the fleet is *all the time* esp with 8 other copies in the fleet
which basically makes no sense coz the cylons could find earth themselves knowing the prophesies and with plenty of time to get the arrow
so the fuck is the purpose of this whole cylon attack??
i hate this show! ;)

Date: 2005-08-28 01:16 pm (UTC)Oh, I shouldn't have read this. I've been going along with this happy little thought in my head that RM had this plan all along and started the show knowing exactly who was a Cylon and who wasn't.
I started to get a little leery of the show during KLG2 too. The exact moment when I first rolled my eyes with the plot lines was when Boomer told Helo she was pregnant. It didn't shock me, they had the little signs leading up to it, but when she announced that I cringed and wondered where they were taking the story.
When the first couple of episodes of this season didn't 'wow' me, I thought I lost my favorite show. But it slowly brought me back. I still don't think this season has the same impact at the first one, but it has many high points, and I am still really enjoying it.
So, while watching The Farm I had many WTF? moments throughout the ep, but I shrugged off most of it. I am interested in what they have planned for Starbuck, but I do fear for her too. I liked the way they did the tomb and the map to Earth. I even shrugged off how quickly they got back to Galactica (this was also the first time I actually wanted to listen to the Podcast to see if RM explains that scene better) because I was happy that they wrapped up all the dangling plot lines and had a sense of closure.
Seeing the teaser for the next ep makes me hopeful. My favorite eps are the ones that centered on Galactica trying to solve the latest problem they encounter, and hopefully the next few eps will go back to that formula.
