Declaration of love

woodfaceI want to declare my love for a certain BSG pairing, but I'm not sure if I can say which one without giving some spoilers away. So err, look under the cut.
I want to declare my love for Kara/Helo. I am so enjoying these scenes between them. It's undeniable that they have a special relationship. Not only have they shouted it at each other, it's just visible in their whole interaction.
I'm not saying that this is the great romance. I think Kara had her one great romance and is stuck in it. I can very much see Kara and Helo as frak buddies, but mainly as friends.
Let's go to the end of KLG. Can you imagine Kara hugging anyone the way she did with Helo? And actually coming out and saying that she missed them. Let's see. We see Kara hugging two other people in S1; Adama and Roslin. We know Kara and Adama have a unique daughter-father relationship. Kara is loyal to him in a way that we have not seen her profess to anyone else. Tigh seems to have tried, but has failed. Roslin? A victory hug. An unguarded moment. But with Helo? Yes, she just went through an ordeal, but there is so much to that hug. There is so much written on her face, such a gratitude for finding him there. I just love that scene, love the way she clings to him. The fact that she confesses missing anyone? Wow. That blew me away. It was very clear then that their relationship is a special one.
Now watching Scattered and Valley of Darkness, I only get the confirmed. Sure, we have Kara and Helo shouting at each other. They're arguing a lot about Boomer, but can you blame them? It's when you get to the apartment that it gets interesting. Helo clearly doesn't know everything about Kara, he's definitely never been there before. There is however such an ease in his interaction with Kara.
What we've seen most about Kara in S1 is how isolated she makes herself. She's in her castle and except for Adama, no one gets in. (And she still has huge secrets for Adama too.) Here is someone who is constantly on the defence. Who is kicking against everyone's shins and who has to be the 'tough pilot'. She is loud and obnoxious and seems to not deal with her emotions. So when we see her sit down with Helo and she actually starts to just talk to him? That's gold. It's amazing to see her so comfortable and open. It's refreshing and she's earned that break.
So yes, I love Kara/Helo. I don't necessarily think of it as a OTP. I'm as happy with a friendship as I would be with a romance. At this point, I actually see more friendship than anything else, although nanda is right when she said that Helo looked positively besotted with Kara. I just utterly adore the ease there is between them, I'm glad there is someone who Kara doesn't feel she has to be defensive around. That she can actually sit down and just talk.
