Honestly? I had way too many petpeeves during this episode to really enjoy it.
First of all, the entire set of Ancient Egypte. Hello? Did anyone there actually do some research and try to find out how Ghiza looked back then? Geez!
But what annoyed me more was the way this AU Carter and Daniel were portrayed. We need geeks. Let's give them glasses (in Sam's case anyway, and make sure no one has any problems functioning without the glasses later on)! Seriously, how the hell is changing history going to affect Sam's eyes? And don't say a different gene somewhere because she wouldn't be Sam at all if that were the case. I'm just annoyed that the best way to portray a "geek" is by giving them glasses. Seriously. The whole geek thing was just stupid. I guess they ran out of imagination somewhere. Just... ugh.
That being said, the Sam/Jack thing was sorta cute.

Date: 2005-03-20 01:15 am (UTC)THANK YOU!
I've been saying that for weeks and everyone I ramble at is all 'meh whatever'.
You're either pre-disposed to sight problems or you're not. And with all the comp/up close work our Sam does in her lab she'd probably be getting to a point where she'd need glasses by now if she was.
And I can totally buy Daniel needing glasses but being able to function without them.
And if needs be I can attempt to explain why...

Date: 2005-03-20 01:21 am (UTC)Daniel? Yes, he can function for certain things. Given time your eyes adjust to not seeing but there are a lot of things that he won't be so useful for. One thing? Shooting a gun ;o)

Date: 2005-03-20 01:27 am (UTC)Ah but he could still aim at a blurry blob of colour.
He just wouldn't be so good at seeing who the blob actually was but then again if they're firing a staff weapon at him I don't think it's gonna be anyone he's going to worry about apologizing to later... ;)
I don't know whether you have any experience of needing glasses or not.
Cos I don't know what the perception is of sight problems to people who've never had them.
How does a person who's never needed to wear glasses think a person who is short sighted see the world without their own?
And I think too much about this kind of random stuff.

Date: 2005-03-20 01:31 am (UTC)Actually, the rebels all had staff weapons.
And er, I wear glasses so I kinda know. I think the blurry thing they used on the ep kinda worked. *g*

::points:: ]
This would be the difference between pointing a staff weapon at Daniel and trying to kill him with one.

For me minus my glasses everything within 20 feet is fine, outside that it's all on gaussian blur. ;)

Date: 2005-03-20 01:38 am (UTC)Without my glasses? Not even my computer screen is sharp. (I am sitting back at the moment though, so if I lean forward it's fine. Feet, feet. That's something on your legs! *mutters as she realises that calculator she downloaded was on her other hard drive* D'oh)

Date: 2005-03-20 10:47 am (UTC)Not sure on the glasses front; it's clearly an indication of geek status, and they haven't thought too deeply about it, but at the same time - could she be wearing clear glasses because they're geek!trendy? Or perhaps the intense reading for her geek!job has tipped her over the edge? I always had slightly shortsighted vision but since coming to uni my eyes have become weaker and weaker, to the point where I need lenses/glasses all the time.
Not sure why I'm contending this, really, as I don't think for a second that they did it for any other reason than for a geek!effect.
And you can't deny teh cute! I will 'ship this fandom till I die...
