FANFIC AUTHORS APPRECIATION WEEK
Mar. 7th, 2005 08:20 pmMarch 6 through March 13
Post to your LJ each day at least one of your favorite fanfic authors and why you love them, their work, and why they need more appreciation.
Monday's authors:
suzvoy is probably the most known author in the shippy part of fandom and with reason. No matter what the topic, genre or style, anything she touches is pure gold. Suzvoy has such a firm grasp on the characters that even when she's having an off day, she still manages to blow your mind away. Her writing style is one you will recognise out of a thousand. She is witty and has her own sense of humour but manages to makeit so that you have no doubt this is Jack, Sam, Jonas or whoever she is writing at the moment.
My love for Suz!fic goes very deep. And the best thing? There is so much to read! While I mostly think of humour when I think of Suz, that certainly isn't the only genre she writes. She has written angst, romance, fluff, action and smut and pretty much anything you can come up with. There are missing scenes, episode additions, stand alone and long plot fics.
I simply can not just pick one fic and say "this is Suz's best". There are just so many and each is so brilliant. That and I am terrible at titles and I'm getting a headache simply thinking about trying to locate some. One that I particularly loved was the Remedied series set in the future where Jack retires. The way she handled Sam's pregnancy and the end of this series caught me completely by surprise but it was just so frakking good. There is lovely angsty piece Blank. But really, just read them all.
It seems natural to mention
anr together with
suzvoy. Not that their writing is the same but maybe it has to do with them getting engaged when I stumbled into fandom.
Ness fic. How can one describe what is so special about her fanfiction? It's hard to explain. Ness writes angst that just grabs you by the throat. Her writing is intense and moving. Her prose is just gorgeous and nearly perfect. Ness fic just is. I know that doesn't make much sense but that's how it is.
I think the best example is Ness' WW3 series. This fic is just... heartwrenching. The angst is high, the plot is brutal and... harsh. This fic is just so frakking brilliant. It. Hurts. And yet, my words here just don't do justice to it.
Ness doesn't just do angst though. She can be quite smutty *g* There is a certain Jonas/Sam/Jack fic for those who appreciate a more crowded bed. I think however, my heart will always belong to Time Out. This must be one of the hottest "sex up against the wall" fics ever.
And let's not forget that Ness is currently being sucked into writing BSG fic. Do you know how excited I am about that (even if it's kara/Lee)?
I really need to reread all these fics, it's been a while.

Date: 2005-03-07 08:44 pm (UTC)Especially when I had to go searching for the pregnancy bit which wasn't in the pair of "Unhappily Ever After" stories but rather in the "Remedied" series...which got me up to "In the Space of a Day".
Gods.
Suz is totally brilliant.
I'd forgotten.
