Rant for
liminalliz
Jan. 30th, 2005 03:54 pmNow, the cool part can be seen on multiple levels, I guess. Girl!Jack is cool just like male!Jack is because well, they're both Jack. The overwhelming coolness is just a part of Jack and will therefor also be present in girl!Jack. Why the concept of girl!Jack itself is cool, though, is another question. It is a bit odd to change a character's gender, but it also opens up a lot of "what ifs". A whole new realm of exploring Jack O'Neill opens up by making these changes. We can assume that her time in the military was a lot different. For example, she probably had to struggle more for the position she earned as a woman in the USAF. It's also very intriguing to wonder how much this has influenced her personal life. Did she get married and have Charlie? Did Charlie die too? Was she as suicidal as Jack was afterwards? What about her sexual preferences? Would girl!Jack be as conservative as Jack and struggle with homosexuality (yes, my interpretation of jack but different rant) or does she "like women" in the same way as her male self?
Which of course leads me to the reason why it "keeps my flame for SG alive". Dude, femslash. The same pairing that I adore so much only, it's slashy and hot. I don't get maleslash but I *do* get this. In fic writing it is a way to bring something new forward in a fandom that has been around for 8 years now. It's hard to find new angles (although not impossible). Girl!Jack is one of those angles. Other people seem to like the new angle the mini!OTP brings. Even others expand to the OT3 (god knows why). And me, I go for the femslash. It's not about teenage bodies or crowds in bed that lead to emotional breakdowns. It's just HOT, new and exciting but familiar and comforting at the same time.

Date: 2005-01-30 08:46 am (UTC)Hmmmm, I watched SG from the very first time it aired on television here. So pretty much from the beginning of it all which would be errr 6 years as they're playing S6 here now. Only been in fandom for 3 years though.
