Funfic BSG: Starcrossed Series: Part 1

Spoilers/Set: Set a little while after "33" but before "Water".
Summary: First part in a series that will go on as long as I feel like writing it.

A/N: Read this very carefully because I shall say this only once. This is funfic. What is funfic? I’m just going to use wiliqueen’s words when she came up with the idea: “Badfic has way too much weight of threatening your rep. I say we should coin a new term for stuff that we know isn't going to shatter anyone's Earth, and might even break every "thou shalt not" of actual writing quality, but is fun to write -- and probably to read -- anyway.”

So what makes this particular piece of fanfic into funfic? Easy, it’s set in the “starcrossed” universe. Meaning that we made a crossover between Stargate and Battlestar Galactica but not in the conventional crossover way. We took Samantha Carter from SG-1 and we moved her into the BSG world. She is a character who grew up there, has her own background and might differ from the SG Carter as they had different experiences. Sounds very much like the Mary Sue thing to do. It probably is.

I have no illusions about this. It’s not my best fanfiction, I don’t expect a whole lot of people to read this. However, I’m writing a series. One that will keep going as long as I have fun writing this pairing (or as long as my muse gives me inspiration). I’m writing this purely for myself (and lyssie). If someone else will enjoy this series, then I’ll be happy. If not, so be it. So if you did read it and enjoyed it, please let me know. Criticism is welcome, just please don’t point out the obvious. I already know.

Heh. Funny that Starbuck calls Sam 'blondie' in her mind even though she is blonde, too. Lovely snarkiness, Jara. And she SO wants her. Who wouldn't? *g*

I love the last line. I'm hoping this encounter will set the tone for their relationship (at least for awhile *g*). Can't wait to see what happens next....

I agree with wiliqueen. I mean, writing--at least fanfic, which doesn't have a prayer of ever garnering any pay (not counting Fandemonium Press here)--*should* be fun. People should be able to cut loose once in awhile and just write for themselves, the story they want to tell. If they had to worry about what everyone else wanted to read all the time, they may as well be writing something that will earn them some money, right? That's not what fanfic is about, so what's the point if the writer isn't enjoying herself? This doesn't have to be about making some grand statement, after all. Maybe sometimes, yes. But not all of the time. Even great writers whose works have transcended time allowed themselves to write for pure enjoyment (back then it was called 'writing letters to friends' although I'm sure there was a lot of erotica, too *g*). Have fun with your fic, Jara, and the reader will, too. This reader surely is.

I'm glad you like it. It does set the tone for a little while (and in some ways long term too) but I'm trying to not overdo it.

I agree. It's kinda hard to just let go and write something that goes against my better judgement though. But it is fun so nerh! I'm glad you enjoyed it. *cuddles*
