Date: 2004-12-02 02:52 pm (UTC)*chuckle* The distances she sometimes travels to get to more concerts would cross two or three countries in Europe. She's very determined.

Date: 2004-12-02 04:58 pm (UTC)It takes me anywhere from 6 to 8 hours (depending on traffic) to drive one way from Chicago to Columbus. I was doing it every weekend all this past summer. Doing something similar 2 or 3 times a year to go to a concert is no big deal for most people I know.
If you're not willing to drive all day to get somewhere, and can't/don't want to pay to fly there, you're most likely out of luck. Trains are slow and have limited destinations.
Columbus is the capital of Ohio, and has about 1.5 million people. The nearest Amtrak station is in Cleveland, 2 1/2 hours away. The best you can do without a car is connect to a bus, thus making your trip take even longer.
If the railroads had been more extensive before Henry Ford made it possible for people who weren't rich to buy cars, this country would work very differently in a lot of ways. As it is, non-car options are very limited.

Date: 2004-12-02 05:02 pm (UTC)We're small, you can get anywhere in the country within a few hours. And you can drive faster than in the US ;o) Yups, we're spoiled esp as most bands seem to include Belgium even if it's small.

Date: 2004-12-02 05:06 pm (UTC)Whereas we often have to go to another state. %-} I drove 4 1/2 hours up to Michigan to see Rick Springfield a couple years ago. (Okay, yeah, that was because I didn't know he was at the Ohio State Fair -- in Columbus! -- in time to get tickets, but that's beside the point. *g*)

Date: 2004-12-02 06:33 am (UTC)They just finished, or are finishing this weekend, their sold out Aussie/NZ tour.
I wish I could go with you in April, but I'll be bogged down with work here Down Under instead of relaxing at home in NL :-|
