Voyager Parallax and some extra's
Jul. 9th, 2004 01:47 amDude, how much do I love Voyager? Yeah, I know I'm just being nostalgic but it's so much fun watching all this again.
Janeway and Chakotay argue over B'Elanna *g* Of course B'Elanna gets the job because she just kicks as but anyway. Was much amused by Paris playing Legolas and stating the obvious.
Janeway and Chakotay are already behaving like a good captain and their first commander. But you can bet your ass she wasn't going to take orders from him if the shoe was on the other foot.
First Kes/Doctor interaction and it reminded me of how sweet Kes always was.
Wow, what is up her ass? Seriously, if you see this (it only last a bit over 10 minutes though) you will be very grateful they picked Kate Mulgrew. Rick Berman was being very kind when he said that Bujold would have been fabulous if it were a movie instead of a series. Maybe it's because I am so used to Kate Mulgrew but I doubt it.
I remember when I first watched Voyager I disliked Janeway, she was stiff and was just plain annoying. I grew to like her but now that I have seen this together with the interview from the cast (also 10 minutes) I understand it better. She was literally thrown into the show with only two days to prepare so she based most of it on Picard. And she probably took over some of the stiffness of Bujold.
I hate to say this but Bujold's acting was just boring and very much non existant. There were no emotions in it whatsoever, not even the scene where she talks to Tuvok about Harry's mom. She probably could have made a good Vulcan though. It's interesting to have just watched Caretaker and then see Bujold play those same scenes.
Yeah, I'm very much relieved.
I found two easter eggs on the extra DVD. All very short but nice. One was an explaination on how they had to redo a lot of scenes with Janeway because the studio didn't like her hairstyle and thus the bun was born. The other was a short reaction from Kate Mulgrew.
The cast reflections (the 10 minutes thing) was fun, it's really short but cute. Robert Beltran and Roxann Dawson explained how amazing it was that they actually got fanmail *before* they even started shooting the series. Quark talked a bit about being honoured to pass the torch on from DS9 to Voyager.

I've loved Mulgrew for years. Janeway wouldn't have been Janeway without her. Thankfully, they didn't stick with Bujold.

Date: 2004-07-09 01:20 am (UTC)I'm glad they really did suck up their pride and went looking for a different actress. Bujold was really flat and maybe she didn't have the chance to develop the character like Janeway did but if those takes are anything to go by; geez!

Seriously bad! and they think kates voice was annoying?
even seeing the same scene played with different actresses, you saw a huge difference in the quality of not only Janeway, but the other actors.

Date: 2004-07-09 10:45 am (UTC)Love Mulgrew. Used to not be able to stand her, but eventually fell in luv--the voice, the hand expressions, even the hair (though I like the short S4 hair best). I think that's a common reaction among fans--from hate to love. Can't imagine Voyager without her, even more so than LOTR without Viggo Mortensen. Interesting.
Huh. Wonder if we have Easter eggs on our S1 DVD...must look. Love the commentaries I've seen, anyway....

I miss watching excessive amounts of Voyager *feels a Voyager revival coming on*

Dude, I miss ST in general. Not one channel is showing any treks at the moment.

I really liked her in Coma and was thrilled when I heard she got the part, (and I've always liked her first name - called my daughter Genevieve.. damn where's the accent on lj text when you need one? *g*), but really, REALLY liked KM from the get-go.
She kicked ass :D

I used to get such a kick out of Q calling the character 'Kate' all the time :D
