Seems Bush is wetting his pants about his popularity dropping and now he's trying to pull his hands off of everything. I wonder how much handing back control to Iraq has come too late. My mom called it a "poisoned gift" and she might be right. My guess is that within a year UNO will be there to clean up Bush's mess.

And now the right for those prisoners in Cuba to press charges against the US. What's up with that? I really don't know what to think about it. If I were naive I'd think the system might actually work but I'm not, not when it comes to this. Seems very dodgy if you ask me. I guess they can expect a lot of charges in the time coming. Unless of course they scare those prisoners enough that they won't dare.

Me cynical? Bush might be just smart enough to make this all look as a 'good thing'. To have his voters believe again that he is the good guy with good intentions who the whole world is misjudging. And in the meanwhile let Disney make a nice movie over how many people made their dream come true in the US and let's ignore the poverty because if a woman makes up cancer for her child to raise money it's because she's 'sick'.

So all hail Bush and I'm sure we'll rewrite history when his time comes to remember him as the liberator of Afghanistan and Iraq. And let's call the UNO chickens because the only thing they can do is come in when things are too late and try to straighten up a mess that's only in their heads.

I've been thinking of asking someone this for a while now, and you're it. So, don't you think any good has come of this? What about the Iraqi girls who are attending school for the first time? What about the fact that Hussein can no longer murder thousands of his own subjects? What about all of the humanitarian projects that thousands of allied soldiers are doing all across the region? Is there another time in history where the 'occupying' nation made so many lives better by bringing in food and medical supplies? Now, I know that there are many things you disagree with, but aren't any of these things good things?

I agree that Hussain isn't a good guy but I disagree on the grounds with which US attacked Iraq against the will of the UNO.

Maybe for some people things are better now but I'm holding my breath because Hussain put a stop to fundamentalist islam. It's only a matter of time before everything slips in the same abyss that Afghanistan is falling into again. I don't believe US left a strong basis for the country to pick up on. And frankly, I don't think US ever had the country under control. They brought chaos and are now leaving chaos behind so someone else can go clean up the mess.

And you know what? A whole new play ground for Al Quada has just opened up. Yaay!

Perhaps I'm being too negative, there probably are some good things that came with the occupation but I wonder how long they will remain standing.

Okay, I've got to ask, what's dodgy about the Supreme Court ruling? Personally, I was thrilled to hear that the detainees do indeed have the right to challenge their detention.

You may be right about Bush finding a way to use this to his advantage, though. Unless, of course, if people are smart enough to remember that the US couldn't find WMDs in the country or prove a link between Iraq and Al-Quaeda, both of which were supposed reasons for the attack.

There was no link between Iraq and Al-Quaeda so it's hard to find one. Al-Quaeda found Hussein a bad muslim and only critized him. WMDs seemed to be another figment of their imagination.

Yeah, read into it a bit more and realised US is still there. But it's easier for Bush now, any mistake made will not appear to be his.

Don't know. It just seems odd because one moment they're placing the prisoners outside of the law and now not. Perhaps I'm just too paranoid though and this might really be a good thing. But I guess it doesn't change that the prison is still there.

If I recall correctly, it wasn't the Supreme Court who claimed they were outside of the law but the Bush administration. So the ruling suggests to me that there still is somewhat of a distinction between the executive branch and the judicature in the US.

There doesn't seem to be a real choice anymore in the presidential election. Which is, of course, just my opinion. I can't exactly explain why I feel that way.
