Cash seems gauche, but I dont see anything wrong with a few nubile priests and priestesses.
And nicely said. One of the things that frustrates me about fandom sometimes is that fans perceive themselves as having been "told" something (either within the "text" of the show by other characters, actions, etc., or outside the show's "text" in cast/crew interviews and so on) that they must either accept or reject whole cloth, thus dividing things into camps. Sam's perfection (or lack thereof) is an excellent case study of that phenomenon and you summarize nicely how teasing apart the threads of that has really given the character depth, if fans are willing to see the layers there, rather than panicking at the first sign that all of these characters may not do things that are 100% right 100% of the time.
Thanks for the link back to Julie's comments. I had missed the post and wouldn't have seen it otherwise. I do think she is right on. I threw my own 2 cents worth in too!
I have to be honest with you...on further discussion with Julie, I don't agree. Guess it just proves we all have our personal takes on Sam and her behaviors.
I'm still a Sam supporter, but will never be in favor of Pete or anyone other love interest--except Jack.
In favor is a big word. If you ask me if I am in favor of Sam/Pete I'll probably say no. But I'm not against it either. I think Pete is a good thing for Sam.
Nothing wrong with not agreeing. The world would be so boring, otherwise. :)
As I've said before, I'm in this for the individual characters over the ship. So while I'd love to see Sam and Jack get together, and happily support that option, I’m certainly okay with other options for either of them during the run of the show (and even at the end, if that’s how the characterization and story end up).
That was very enjoyable. Very well-thought out. I can't tell you how cool it is to read comments about Sam that aren't resentful. I'd put a cookie in Splash's collection plate. ;)
I have a hard time figuring out how anyone can see Sam as perfect, unless they're not looking past the techo-babble role. In the ep where Jack told her he hadn't been herself since he'd met her... that look on her face after he said that... THAT was the moment I became a Sam fan. It was just "aw yeah... I hear ya, Sammy... let's go get a drink and commiserate."
Speaking of Sam, anyone have a good yahoo list to rec for friendly SG-1 talk? One that doesn't dislike any of the characters or ships? I'm thinking it's a pretty grim outlook, but what the heck.
And thank you. Sometimes I think I put a little too much thought into analyzing fictional characters. And then I remember I'm a writer and I have an excuse. :)
