A/N: Big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] chiroho for the quick beta.

I might still change the title but for now I'm keeping this. Ow yeah, anyone notice this isn't a SJ fic? Scary huh?

She remembers now.

She didn’t when she first woke up, as if the cold was the only sensation she’d ever known existed. The voices around her sounded comforting, but she couldn’t help wanting to get away from their unfamiliar words. She didn’t know their language, and that came with the realisation that she didn’t belong here.

Her first real memory came back when the one called Jonas told her about his companions being ill. By now she understood what he was saying, their language was simple and easy enough to understand, but she couldn’t remember if she’d ever communicated like this. The sounds felt too crude and rough in her throat. They thought she was responsible for their illness.

“You carry the disease within you.” His emotions of sorrow and pity washed over her as he told her.

She is responsible.

The next time she remembered something, she was watching one of the men slowly slipping away.

His eyes were closed, one hand on her forehead, the other on her chest. She could feel the warmth flow into her body, feel his desperation to try and destroy the disease within her.

He gasped and his eyes flew up. “I can not.”

He couldn’t heal her so she didn’t know if she would succeed, but she had to try.

She is responsible.

It all came back then, the memory of a life before everything became cold. She remembers now.

“We can not cure this illness. We will have to leave this planet.”

The decision was made. There wasn’t another option. Half of the inhabitants in the colony had already fallen ill and died. There wasn’t time to look for a cure, not without risking the other half becoming ill as well. They had to leave; everyone who wasn’t infected would go through the Stargate - back to their homeworld.

She knew she would never see it again.

He kissed her on the forehead after the others had already gone through. She wished he hadn’t.

She could feel his sorrow, his grief. He wanted to stay with her, but she couldn’t let him.

“I’m sorry.” Jonas looks like him.

She nodded, and felt his hand gently touch the side of her face. Sleep.

He would come back for her -when he knew how to heal her.

Wait and sleep.

It’s so cold.

This is lovely. Lovely lovely lovely. The (intentional?) juxtaposition of Jonas and the man from before is so sad, and knowing how it all turns out . . .

I really liked this (with or without Sam and Jack.) :)

Oooh! nice back story!

And I love the parallels between the healer-dude and Jonas, very neatly and cleverly done ;)
