The Winter Guest
Feb. 22nd, 2004 02:01 amI love that movie, love the whole atmosphere. As if the snow has frozen time as well. Emma Thompson and Law (her mother) are great in it. So are the two boys with their kittens.
I feel shredded in pieces, some sentences are stuck in my head.
"This wind cuts through you."
"The ground is waiting for me."
"You're always so closed up."
"He wants her back. He's waiting for her."
"No, you didn't ask to be born. You demanded it."
It's no mystery who the guest is, he's constantly present.
The idea of Tom going on the ice to see where it ends is strangely beautiful and gut wrenching. Him and his kitten walking on the ice, far away from the shore and your mind doesn't allow you to imagine he will ever return to the beach.
Then the last image of Sam standing in the middle of the ice as the fog is all around him. He shouts for Tomto wait so he can catch up with him and then disappears in the fog.
