So I've been having problems with my windows media player as it wouldn't play any sound.

I run the setup again and it did nothing.

Until I finally notice something. I had mute on the whole time.

So not my finest moment.

Not as bad as me. I couldn't get sound to work on my desktop, so I actually swapped out the speakers, fortunately I had a second set from an older machine, no difference. Noticed afterwards that mute had been on the whole time.

Hee! Well I did try other programs first and they worked. Found that really weird but thought it was media player acting up.
