Is it possible that a Captain would get work as security on topside in Cheyenne Mountain? I thought the person I was wanting to place there would have a higher ranking so I'd put him as head of security. I however can't see a Captain in charge and I have difficulties imagening him standing guard as that seems more the work of an Airman.

So is it possible that he'd get a job in security (either leading or not)? And also, is my assumption that he wouldn't know anything that is going on in the lower levels a correct one?

Depending on how large the guard complement is, it's certainly possible.

A captain generally commands a Company sized unit. The next unit larger would be a batallion, commanded by a Major. It's entirely possible that the MP's protecting the outside of the mountain are only company strength, so a Captain could be the Unit C/O - reporting to a Major down at Peterson AFB. The mountain really only has one entrance so there wouldn't be a lot to do, and Company sized sounds right.

Up to you though, as you're the author!

And no, I've had a really busy day I haven't started. :(

Usually around 90 to 120 in a company, made up of 2 or 3 platoons plus some possible self supporting units. Each platoon is commanded by a Lieutenant, and is made up of four, 8 to 12 man sections or squads. This works out to be something like 120 in a company.

I think there is a site somewhere that describes all this, but I can't find a good one. Try this one (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/army/unit/).
