Lunar Eclipse
Nov. 9th, 2003 02:08 amJust watched the lunar eclipse. Of course I'm that lazy that I don't go sit outside (that and I don't want to wake my parents up). There are so many stars out tonight, so very pretty. It's at times like this that I wonder why the hell I'm studying history and not astronomy.
Damn, it's so beautiful out there. I saw a falling star as well, made a wish of course.
When she finally gets to the full eclipse, it's weird how she becomes a lot clearer then. Well, I guess it's normal as she is entirely dark now, nothing to bring contrast.
Reminded me a bit of the solar eclipse a couple of years back. We really thought we wouldn't see anything after driving all the way to France. Everything was cloudy and there was little hope. We pulled aside in a field. Everywhere along the way people had started to stop to look for a good spot to watch. The last minutes got closer and the clouds were still in the way. It's strange how everything becomes dark around you. It's not a "natural" kind of dark. It's true, everything does grow quiet and there's an air of expectancy around. Then you see it rushing toward you. The shadow moves fast over the ground, it hits you and at that moment the clouds opened up and we saw the diamond ring. Soon we saw nothing but the sun's corona. It's amazing, passes way too fast.
