Logan/Veronica, it's like Kara/Lee
Jan. 24th, 2007 06:33 pmIt's amazing how after watching one ep of Veronica Mars, I'm back to trying to grasp why I don't like this pairing while 95% of the fandom seems to swoon over them.
I don't like Kara/Lee which shouldn't be a secret to the rest of my flist. Why not? Because I don't believe that they can make each other happy. They destroy each other in a relationship, they hurt each other and they are just too frakked up to make it work. Hence, I can't ship them. It's weird how I used to love the romantic idea like Heathcliff and Catherine who kept hurting each other because they cared too much. I've apparently grown over that notion. I like my pairings who add to each other and who make each other grow.
I don't think Logan and Veronica do that. Those two are just so messed up and so destructive. They concentrate on wanting the other to change, but never seem to feel the need to do the same for the other. Actually, Veronica tried in S3, but it did her little good as it probably was too little too late.
I think the only person we have seen Logan really want to change himself for was Hannah. I know that relationship started on false pretenses, but in the end I think it opened Logan's eyes. For the first time there was someone looking at him and seeing good. Hannah believed in him and that made him want to live up to her expectations. I liked them together actually, but I'm pretty sure that I'm a minority here. The thing is, Veronica has never looked at Logan like that. She expects the worse from him and he tends to live up to that too.
The fact that they continually keep finding out that they suck together and keep going back annoys the hell out of me. Either stick it out and make it work or break up and stay that way. And now they're together again *eyeroll* and I have no faith whatsoever that Rob Thomas is going to keep them like that. How long before V will finally hear what Logan did to Mercer?
And no, I'm sorry. What Logan did might have been amusing for about a minute or two, but it was wrong and messed up. If he had shown up when Mercer had hurt Veronica and he lost control, I would have completely understood him. Logan however got himself arrested with the sole purpose of beating the crap out of someone because he thought that was a better justice. Oh yeah, V is going to be very impressed when she finds out that he has learned nothing since S1.
I really need to stop rambling about this. It's just frustrating me that they keep pushing the on and off thing while neither of them actually seems to benefit from it. Sure, Logan will look less pouty, but that's pretty much it. Poor Piz. Can I have him then?
*points to icon* Now there's a couple who make each other better.

Date: 2007-01-24 08:21 pm (UTC)Didn't watch, but I remember it ending with the last episode with Logan *about* to beat the crap out of Mercer. And I *still* say it reminds me of when Aaron beat the crap out of his daughter's boyfriend. Yeah, the boyfriend deserved it, but that was so out of control. Logan needs LOTS of therapy.
And about the Logan/Veronica thing - I'm not OTP-ish about it, but probably don't dislike it as much as you. Although, I would agree they're really not good for each other right now. Maybe it's just not something that could last beyond a high school relationship. Or maybe Logan still needs LOTS of therapy.

Date: 2007-01-24 08:27 pm (UTC)...I'm not sure what my Veronica/Logan thoughts are.
...possibly mostly "They'd get along great if V wasn't such a control freak".
...I miss Hannah. *hides from Jen*

Date: 2007-01-24 08:27 pm (UTC)But yeah, I'm with you on the therapy thing. I'm with you on the 'not right now'. I think it could have been a relationship that I might have liked if it had been approached differently. However, the way it is being used on and off, it just will never work for me. Someone just told me on IM that Logan/V doesn't get used for plot or character development. It gets milked for ratings and so it fails to ever be anything meanful.

Date: 2007-01-24 08:31 pm (UTC)I don't think that it is all on Veronica. Her being a control freak doesn't help, but this definitely isn't all on her head. And I could explain that more, but then I'll get on my tirade about how much I didn't like Logan's attitude during this season and that might take a while. *g*

Date: 2007-01-25 12:20 pm (UTC)He does have an awful lot of it, doesn't he?
Kristen Bell is a cutie, though. But she can't have Piz because he's mine.
Mine. Mine. Mine.
