My personal theory? The Christmas season begins when Santa arrives during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
You may hang outdoor Christmas lights during the unseasonably warm early November weekends (like this one), but they SHOULD NOT BE LIT until Thanksgiving night.
Of course, I suppose that only really holds true for Americans, since the rest of the world doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving.
