Aug. 31st, 2005 02:10 amAs some of you might know, I have a great fear of spiders. Now, once when my parents are asleep, I normally have to overcome the fear and squish the spider myself. This is done with lots of jumpiness and being grossed out and squicked. However, tonight the spider was HUGE. So I'm left with the dilemma of overcoming my fear of trying to squish a spider that is way too big for a small country like Belgium, or waking up my mother and suffering the wrath of waking her up for a stupid spider.
I move into the hall and decide to fetch the spider killing broom. I move back to my room, eye the spider and realise my broom is not adequate in this spider killing as its legs will come from under it and I'll be completely grossed out and have nightmares for the next few weeks. Add to that that the spider is located just above my night table, next to my bed and other stuff and I just know it will fall down and try to run for it and there will be much jumping on my part. So er...
Plan b. Find Misty. I drag Misty into my room and put her in close proximity of the spider. Sadly enough, the spider is not moving (actually this was also kinda good), but as it's sitting above her eye level and kinda out of her view, this plan fails miserable. Now I've got a cranky woken up cat and still a spider in my bedroom.
I'm back to the broom. I take it once more in the room and stare at the spider. It's just too frakking big. I can not do it.
Plan c. Go stand at my parent's bedroom door, whisper and hope my mom is awake. No luck. Of course, then I accidently walked over the broom. (Really, it was an accident.) Whisper again. No luck. Push open door and whisper. STILL NOTHING. I'm desperate by now and debating going in the bedroom and waking my mom actively up. Until my mom comes out and is like "what the hell is that racket?" I give her the spider alert, she goes (eyes half closed) into my room with the broom. I remain in the hall and listen to the massacre (seriously, my mom had to hit it a few times and there was much twitching on my part). Anyway, the remains are disposed of and Jara is back in her spiderless room.
Conclusion: spider fear sometimes is larger than mother's wrath fear.

I once saw a huntsman (hand-span sized spider, all legs and hair *shudders*) inside my car, as I was just about home at around 11pm... It was on the inside of the windscreen.
So I stopped the car in the middle of the road, got out (with the screaming and the running and the spider!dance of fear) and left the car in the middle of the road while I ran over to my house to wake up my father to come kill the bad!spider...
Yes - I left my car, lights on, engine running, door open in the middle of the road while I squealed my way over to the house (around the corner).
My father was not pleased.
To top it off? By the time he'd put on clothes and stumbled out to the car, the spider had disappeared.
We all have humourous spider! stories to tell.....
