Frak, that's disgusting. That is beyond low.

I just saw a documentary about how ACS in New York is allowing doctors to experiment with anti-AIDS drugs on orphans or phoster children mostly from the poorer parts of the city (Bronx). They're using highly experimental drugs with tremendous side effects that are harmful and even lethal on defendless children. They even go so far as to take children away from their families if the guardian decided to take them off the drugs (and the children actually got better after this).

That's just sick.

The one big institute who were preforming the experiments seems to have been forced to stop with it, but research has shown that the malpractices continue in other institutions still.

Nothing like being a guinea pig just because you weren't born in the "right" place. This from the organization that's supposed to be looking out for them. Yeesh. At least according to this, they stopped in 2001:

I am disgusted -- but sadly, not surprised. This is far from the first time this has happened in US history -- see the Tuskegee syphilis experiment.

That's the thing, the documentary ended on a note that while the one institute they were tracking stopped the experiments, there has been evidence that it continues elsewhere.

The link you gave is actually to another institute than the one in the doc (frak, I can't remember its name). The one in the documentary stopped apparently in 2002. I wonder if that institute they mention on the link that will judge everything ethically is the same they mentioned in the doc that apparently consisted of doctors all from clinics supporting the experiments.

Yeah, when they listed some of the side effects of those medicines (or the way they made those kids take them), I got really disgusted. Those meds are tough enough on adults. *sighs*

It's unbelievable in this day and age that stuff like would happen in "civilized" societies. Just shows how we're all aware of Jennifer Garner's due date, but the important stuff gets swept under the rug. *sigh*

In all actuality, this is the sort of thing that pisses me off the most when the anti-abortion people go on and on about how Society Loves Children. Because it's utter bullshit, if this sort of thing can still happen.
