I just realised something that I wouldn't have if I hadn't read GoF after reading OotP. Dumbledore points out in OotP that Harry is protected by an ancient sort of magic that Voldemort underestimates. There even is a room inside the Department of Mysteries filled with this magic.

In GoF, Harry is reading up on dragons and it says this: "Dragons are extremely difficut to slay, owing to the ancient magic that imbues their thick hides, which none but the most powerful spells can penetrate..."

Is this what is protecting Harry? Is it the same sort of magic that saved him from Voldemort's spell? Rowling likes dragons, look at the creed on Hogwarts crest: "Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus" (never tickle a sleeping dragon). Is that what Voldemort did when he tried to kill Harry? Part of Harry's power seems to come from Voldemort's failure. So did he tickle a sleeping dragon and wake up something he can not control?
