I can't get over how similar Dutch and German sound and how comprehensible it is.

Of course, since it's the linguistic mid-point between German and English, that makes sense...but it fascinates me every time.

That made me giggle, and I bet it's related to the Scots 'breeks', meaning pants/knickers... some of our language was never Frenchified by the Normans
