First of all; Bra'tac/Daniel all the way, baby. He was so oggling the Daniel!flesh.
Threads felt like fanfic. Seriously, every little bit felt familiar. I wish they didn't drop the Sam feeling awkward about Pete thing on us out of nowhere. Some sort of continuity would have been nice. Then again, that would have just been fuel for the stalker crazies amongst us. Either way, here are some thoughts on the Sam/Pete plot in the episode.
It felt awkward, like TPTB taking a piss at him. On the other side, I'm grateful they didn't make a whole tantrum out of the break up. Pete didn't stand a chance when he met Jacob. The "dad!" exclamation was just too funny. Jacob actually going "not yet" even funnier as he never told Jack to back off on it.
About Pete calling Sam up at the base? You know, I can understand why he did that. And just maybe there not being a continuity is exactly what was good about this. I can imagine Pete having trouble to spend time with Sam as she is always busy. So here she was on her off day, at the base again while she should have been somewhere else with Pete for their wedding. From the conversation later in the car, it's clear that it's not the first time that she doesn't show up on an appointment. Pete is trying to comprehend it (saving the world etc vs the mundane), but it gets old at this point. So knowing that she is not on duty, and her promising she'd show up, I can see him having enough of it and calling her at the base. It's just a matter of being fed up with it. So I guess it does work for me.
The house thing? Pete, boy, you need to learn a few things. Taking Sam to see the house and suggesting to buy it is good. Buying it without asking? Not so much. I think he's clinging though. He somewhere knows Sam isn't 100% with him (the whole calling her at the base shows that). Instead of backing off and giving her room however, he's being more needy. Yeah, that backfires.
The break up. That whole "she's expecting Pete to lash out like Jonas" thing? Don't make me laugh, please. Sam was expecting a response from Pete similar to Jack's. In a way, she wanted him to try and convince her not to do it, or at least give her a sign that he would be friends no matter what. Pete's lack of response, however, showed that he is not Jack. He wants Sam to be his wife, he does love her, but not on the unconditional terms that Jack is offering her. After all, this is television and Jack is her true love. Bit cheesy but the way it was all left unspoken worked for me.
Before I get to the good stuff. Let me just go into Kerry/Jack for a bit. I am highly amused how everyone seems to like her based on the 5 minutes she gets. I have no like, no dislike for her. Am pretty neutral except for the part where it squicks me that she has sex with Jack. Still, highly amused about the praise she's getting while people are pointing fingers at Pete. Am however grateful that they didn't play the whole Kerry thing to get Sam to break up with Pete. Although, it did hurt Sam and made her panic for a moment.
Jack/Sam. Oh boy. Jack is being an ass. He's got the repressed down to a tee right now. Ha. The house scene? Ouch. He is wearing his poker face but judging by the way he's helplessly flailing the burned meat and looking anxiously at his house, he's freaking out. Because crap, Sam is standing right there and he wants to hear what she says but there's a woman right inside his house who might screw this all up. I think he's also scared that she will change her mind again and go ahead with the wedding. After so many years, it's not easy to actually accept it.
So Jacob and Kerry are telling them both to screw (or at least find a way around) the regs. See, fanfic all over. In Jacob's case, I get it. I loved it. He wants to die knowing she will be alright, that she will be happy. That whole scene was just so beautifully played. Kerry and Jack? Dude, I just don't know what to think about it. I guess someone needs to kick Jack's ass and make him stop angsting.
OMG, the infirmary scene. That is just perfect. It's so them. It's gentle and unspoken. Jack offering his friendship and more to Sam, not rushing it, just opening up doors. That "always" says it all. And Sam holding his hand and stroking it with her thumb. Dead of squee indeed. So beautfully done. The ending is cute and made me wonder if I was reading Julie!fic. I swear she bribed TPTB.
Now, one more thing. THEY KILLED DAD! AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Frack, I knew something was up in Reckoning. I was happy to ignore the signs, though, as I didn't want them to die. Jacob dying with Selmak seems right. I can see him refusing to let Selmak leave him, wanting to hold on to her. He seemed at peace with it all. It wasn't like four years ago, he was ready now. Only, he really did want to see Sam be happy. The moments between Sam and Jacob were just great. God, I love Jacob so much. Why did they do that? *wails*
