A/N: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] splash_the_cat for the beta. This is just a 300 word drabble that came to me. Not sure why.

He wiped his brow with the back of his hand, trying to prevent the sweat from trickling into his eyes. His T-shirt was soaked through, his beard itched and he had sand stuck between his teeth. And he enjoyed it all.

Finally the world knew the truth about the Goa’uld and he was allowed to dig into the Egyptian desert to find out exactly what did happen there. No more alien languages to try and comprehend, no stereotypical bad guy waiting around the corner to jump up at him and try to kill him. Just sand stuck beneath his fingernails due to hours of digging.

Cassie had called him last night. The satellite connection kept breaking up – so much for improved Earth technology, – but at least he got to talk to her for a few minutes. She had asked him if he missed it - Gatetravel. He’d told her ‘no,’ only then realising that it was the truth. The excitement of it all had died somewhere around the time he had given up corporeal existence. There was something about being a supreme being that sucked the fun out of the mundane.

He’d asked her about the upcoming wedding, once he realised she wasn’t going to bring it up. It had taken him a minute before he understood why. Sam might have warned her that it might bring up bad memories for him – it was stupid that suddenly they felt so awkward around each other. Besides, he and Sha're had never worried about all those trivial things.

Until he realised Sam wasn’t worried about that either. It was the promises he had whispered afterwards in the darkness, only for his wife to hear, that mattered. Though they had faded a long time ago, he found himself incapable, unwilling to break them.
