Attack of the geeks

So this weekend I was a total geek. I went to a scifi/fantasy/comic convention and saw a whole lot of people in costume. I was dressed up too (hey, discount if you were), wore my Starfleet science officer shirt, DS9 style (rank Lt Commander). I totally geeked out and bought a working combadge on the convention. Also bought a button pin that is exactly like the patch SG-1 wears on their arm (the chevron one) and will be putting it unto Jack!bear's uniform.

It was amusing to see how many geeks our country does have. The amount of Star Wars costumes were just amazing and I really really really want to have a storm trooper. Yes, costume AND man. Seriously, who wouldn't want to get into that codpiece? *cackles*

Steven went with me and bought a red lightsaber. While I was waiting for him to pay for it, this guy came up to me and shoved a calender in my hands. He said it was a present. I was completely confused and wondering if he was pulling my leg. You know, give the naive trekkie a present and then get her caught stealing. But no, he owned the stall and he really just gave it to me because of what I was wearing. On closer inspection it was a daily calender from 1997 so I doubt that he would have been able to sell it. But it was still cool! (He was sorta cute too.)

All in all, the whole convention is sadly enough orientated on selling things. There were guests (check out the website) and you could og get autographs, there were Q&A sessions with those guests, but the fact remains that Belgium just isn't that envolved in scifi.

I watched The passion of the Christ this weekend and I have to admit that I found the movie completely pointless. Some very gruesome scenes but honestly, do you really think anyone has that much of blood in them? It was just meant to shock and didn't really bring anything new to me. Okay, that's not true. I never seen the story told exactly like this. Don't think it was necessary to tell it like that either. What crack was Mel Gibson on anyway?

Let's end this with just one remark. Bush needs someone to tell him what he needs to say in debates? Wow, some president.
